Author Inquiries
Congratulations on writing a book! That is a pretty big deal!
Please understand that I would love to read every single book that comes through our doors, but unfortunately I can’t. If I could make full time reader my job description, i would. But, at this point, I’ve got a book shop to run :) We also have very limited physical space that does not allow us to accommodate every book and author we might like.
We receive stocking requests from independently and traditionally published authors often. We will do our best to get back to you as quickly as we can.
What criteria are you looking for when you choose what books to put on your shelves?

The most important thing we consider in curating our inventory is meeting the needs of our customer base. For us, that means covering a wide range of interests, reading habits and budgets. Our highest selling genres are romantasy, romance and contemporary fiction. So, we will definitely be more interested in those.
I am interested in presenting my book at an event at the Astoria Bookshop. How do I submit my proposal?

We have a small space for intimate events, we want to make sure you know this before inquiring. Once you have seen our space, please use the form on the “contact us” page to inquire.
Are there any books you will not accept?

We do not accept books that have been in any way developed by generative AI, including text and illustrations.
Do you do consignment or wholesale?

We are primarily a used book store. For used books, we accept donations or we can discuss pricing privately. If you would like for us to feature your new book we will purchase them at wholesale prices. Our wholesale rates are the industry standard of 60/40: We pay you 60% of the retail price, and we keep the remaining 40% when we sell the book.
In order to buy your new book at wholesale pricing, you MUST agree to promote that your book is available at Blackbird Books & Coffee on your social media, to friends and family, etc. This will create a win-win for the both of us.
